Internet Rumour Mill: Andy Webster

You can’t help but love the Internet when it comes to transfer speculation and it seems some sharp spotted Hibees at yesterday’s clash against Dumbarton witnessed former Scotland international Andy Webster taking in the match.

Webster, released by former Hibs gaffer Tony Mowbray at the end of last season after he took charge at Coventry City, is now being discussed as a potential signing target for Hibs boss Alan Stubbs who admitted last week he’d like to strengthen his defensive options.

At 33 years old the centre half’s best playing days are likely to be behind him and his reputation as someone regularly requiring a table in the treatment room would make him an odd target for Hibs with Stubbs preferring to take on younger up and coming talent such as Dan Carmichael and John McGinn.

Granted, it was an odd game for Webster to choose to watch if he’s not a target for Hibs (or maybe even Dumbarton) as he originally hails from Dundee but they’re a strange lot in the Fair City so who knows!

So what do people believe on this one? Was it Webster or a lookalike? Signing target or not? Have your say below!

He’d probably still do a decent job in the championship but just can’t see us wanting him. He’s 33 so no long term future but would add an experienced head to the squad. Former Jambo and knocked us back once already though so I’d have to say no thanks.
