New Hibs boss Alan Stubbs is keen to sign former Hearts goalkeeper Jamie McDonald according to a report in the Scottish Sun this morning.

McDonald was surprisingly freed by the Tynecastle outfit as they began the process of exiting administration despite winning the Jambo’s player of the year award last season.

Hibs are currently without any recognised goalkeeper following a cull of the playing staff in the immediate aftermath of relegation which saw 14 players released including former no.1’s Ben Williams, Sean Murdoch and Paul Grant.

The signing of 28 year old McDonald would receive a mixed reception from supporters of the Easter Road side due to his past history with the Gorgie outfit although if he can be convinced to cross the capital divide, it should be regarded as somewhat of a coup given Hibees Championship status.

Stubbs, who took charge earlier this week, has a major rebuilding job on his hands at the club but has already stated his ambition is to gain promotion from the second tier at the first time of asking.

With Hibs due to face Vale of Leithen in their first pre season friendly a week today, it’s imperative new signings are added to a threadbare playing squad as soon as possible.
