Terry Butcher is aiming to sign St Johnstone star Lee Croft as he aims to overhaul his under achieving squad this summer according to a report in this morning’s Scottish Daily Express.

The 28 year old Englishman has impressed during his second spell at McDiarmid Park and there is reputed interest from Aberdeen, Sheffield United and an MLS side for the winger whose contract expires next month.

Croft, whose former clubs include Derby, Huddersfield, Manchester City and Oldham, helped the Saints to their first Scottish Cup Final earlier this month when they surprisingly beat Aberdeen 2-1.

Butcher is keen to strengthen his playing staff with a raft of first team members out of contract and, if rumours are to be believed, the Hibs boss has told them their contracts will not be renewed.

Amongst those likely to leave Easter Road during the close season are club captain James McPake, Kevin Thomson, Tom Taiwo and steadfast keeper Ben Williams.
