Hibs Bag All 3 Points At Ibrox Yet Again

A resilient second half performance from Hibs saw them leave Govan with all three points for the second time this season thanks to goals from John McGinn and James MacLaren.

For all the first half was a frenetic affair, each side had good phases of possession although with £8 million rated striker (no laughing at the back please) Alfredo Morelos missing 2 great chances it seemed inevitable Hibs would score and having had one incorrectly ruled out for offside, John McGinn lashed home a 30 yard piledriver on the stroke of half time to silence the vast majority of the sectarian cesspit.

Rangers did pile on the pressure in the second half but never created much in the way of clear cut chances and their best efforts were from long range.

Hibs gave away one free kick on the edge of the box too many and loanee Sean Goss struck a top corner free kick to equalise.

The No Surrender Brigade were almost immediately silenced however when James Tavernier inexplicably pushed Scott Allan to the ground inside the box when he was heading away from goal and referee Willie Collum awarded the penalty.

Was it a penalty? Yes. Was it soft? Yes. You can’t push people to the ground in the box- something Rangers were guilty of earlier in the second period when Lewis Stevenson was pushed by two Rangers players to the deck whilst defending a free kick. It cost them a goal on both occasions.

Whilst Morelos’ header was rightfully ruled out at the other end, Aussie striker Jamie MacLaren netted his first goal for the Hibees since joining on loan from Darmstadt 98 last month.

His penalty was hit firm and true but despite hitting Foderingham’s hip, the keeper couldn’t keep it out.

The home side huffed and puffed until the final whistle but couldn’t create anything of note and at the final whistle it was the small band of Hibees in the Govan corner celebrating wildly.

Despite missing the influential Paul Hanlon and Darren McGregor the makeshift back 4 kept Rangers at bay a little too easily for The Rangers fans liking but at the end of the day it’s Hibs who narrow the gap on the fallen Glasgow giants to just 2 points.
