Hearts might have won the Championship but Hibs made sure that there wasn’t anything between us in terms of the games played this season as we beat them for the first time this season, more importantly this win on Sunday keeps alive our hopes of finishing in second.

The two-nil win at Easter Road, even though Rangers thrashed Raith four-nil at Ibrox later in the day, meant that we just about kept hold of second place on goal-difference but Rangers do still have a game in hand.

What this also does is give us a boost heading into our Scottish Cup semi final with Falkirk next weekend.

This was a game that we dominated from start to finish really and early on we had several chances to take the lead, Fyvie and Fontaine both going close either side of Paterson putting a header against his own bar!

But Hearts held out…. That was until Cummings (30), who had seen an effort saved well by Alexander just a minute or two prior, finally made the break through. We deserved this and had been threatening it and on the half hour he converted from close range after Hearts failed to clear a corner.

It would have been two-nil, at least, at half time if Fontaine wasn’t denied again, this time by the bar! With Oxley finally ‘tested’ by a Walker effort that he had to turn away in the second half, after which El Alagui should have doubled the lead, and made this game safe, but he missed from close range having been put in on Alexander by Forster.

Hearts pushed for an equaliser, pushing men forward, and following a goalmouth scramble, that had seen Forster block well, we had a counter-attack that Malonga led. He made the wrong decision to go alone when others would have been better placed to settle this game.

After Sow had been denied by a save the game, as we deserved, was finally wrapped up in injury-time. El Alagui (90+1) made no mistake this time as lifted the ball over Alexander to make sure that, unlike twice previously this season when we were ‘pegged back’, Hearts wouldn’t deny us again!
