A third straight defeat on Saturday saw our chances of finishing runners-up to rivals Hearts take another blow with defeat against Queen of the South, who improved their play-off bid. With Rangers beating Hearts on Sunday they moved above us as we dropped to third.

Alan Stubbs, speaking after the Rangers defeat, said that it would ‘do us good’ in the long-run…. So far that hasn’t proven the case with Queen of the South’s one-nil win on Saturday condemning us to a third straight defeat!

Defeat sees us just two-points ahead of Queen of the South as well now!

The lead could have gone the visitors way in the opening minute with Reilly having an early chance, which thankfully he couldn’t taken and nor could Holt with a couple of chances with Lyle also having an effort before the break.

Durnan (47), with the second half barely underway, made the breakthrough from close range with Queen of the South finally getting the goal that they had been threatening all afternoon.

The best chances that we had to get back into the game fell to Malonga, who put one over before Queen of the South ‘keeper Clark made a good save from his header.

We pushed for a leveller late on with El Alagui going close and with a late, late corner we sent everyone up including loanee ‘keeper Oxley but he couldn’t score on this occasion, he’ll have to be content with just the one goal for us, so far, this season….
