As Hibs begin the search for Terry Butcher’s replacement, former Celtic star John Hartson has admitted he’s flattered with speculation linking him to the managerial role at Easter Road.

Leeann Dempster has claimed she’ll search far and wide to bring the right man to the club after sacking Butcher just a week into her reign as new CEO.

Ian Murray is currently the bookies favourite but it’s the interest of Wales legend Hartson which will cause a few talking points amongst fans this morning.

The 39 year old, who until recently worked as a forwards coach with his nation’s international side, has limited experience within club football with his only previous backroom experience a part time role at Newport County.

However he insists he’s ready to return to the Scottish game and admitted ‘It’s flattering for me to be linked with the Hibs job. I’ve never hidden my ambition to become a manager one day.’

Hartson’s name has been thrown into the mix as an early contender to replace Butcher with Stuart McCall, Billy Reid and Danny Lennon also linked in various media outlets.

Former Inverness manager Butcher was sacked on Tuesday afternoon following a dreadful run of form which saw Hibs win just 2 of his last 21 matches in charge.

I don’t fancy Hartson. Just don’t see him as the motivational type. I’d rather Murray was given the chance.
