Scotland’s Young Player of the Year, Leigh Griffiths, has spoken to Scottish Television of his hopes to stay at Hibs.
The 22 year old, on loan from recently relegated Wolves, has been in superb form for his boyhood heroes netting 29 times so far this season, form which saw him receive hist first international cap as well as a string of awards north of the border.
Ahead of Sunday’s Scottish Cup Final, the striker admitted he was keen to remain at Easter Road following the end of his current loan spell despite the Molineux club invoking the one year contract extension on his existing deal last week which ties him to the Midlands outfit until next summer.
Griffiths told STV news “I`m trying everything I can to stay.
“I`ve spoken to the manager and he wants me to stay but I just need to bide my time.
“As far as this is concerned (the Scottish Cup final) will be my last game for Hibs. I`m hoping it is not and we`ll just have to see what happens after the game.
“You never know. If Hibs put an offer in and Wolves accept it then I`ll be the happiest man in the world.
“People know I love playing for the club and there will be none happier than me if I`m pulling on the green and white next season.
“Running out at Easter Road every second week to the fans here is a dream come true and it`s not one that I want to end in a hurry.”
Griffiths words are sure to be music to the ears of the Hibs support as the club aim to belie their status as massive underdogs for the clash against champions Celtic this weekend.
