Scotland under 17 coach Scot Gemmill is said to be interesting Hibs following the decision to remove Terry Butcher from his manager’s role.

43 year old Gemmill, who finished his playing career in New Zealand, holds his UEFA A coaching licence and is highly rated within the Scottish FA.

As a combative midfielder he won 26 caps for the Scots before taking up coaching, firstly at Oxford United before heading to New Zealand Knights where he worked as player/coach.

On his return to Scotland he helped develop the various age groups under Billy Stark before being appointed manager of the Under 17’s in March.

He led the youths to the semi finals of the European Championships last month where they performed admirably before being outclassed by Holland in the last four.

Gemmill’s emergence as a candidate comes hot on the heels of Dutch star Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink confirming his interest in the post as Hibs CEO Leeann Dempster seeks to narrow her shortlist.

Dempster will be hoping to have her new man in place prior to pre season training beginning as the first team squad is desperately needing strengthened following the release of 15 players after relegation was confirmed.

I wouldn’t be adverse to Gemmill. Young man trying to forge a reputation is more agreeable than a seasoned manager lacking ambition. I’d love to see JFH simply for the boost of profile it would give to the club.

Another who’d be happy with Gemmill. Fresh ideas and highly rated is good enough for me.
