Hibs fans gathered in their hundreds outside the main entrance to the stadium to vent their anger after watching their side get relegated on a black Sunday at Easter Road.

Despite having a two goal advantage from the first leg, Terry Butcher’s side somehow contrived to throw away the lead and allow Hamilton to level the scores over the two legs as the Hibees simply fell apart in front of their home support.

The Accies sealed a dramatic turnaround by winning a penalty shoot out 3-2 after Kevin Thomson and Jason Cummings missed spot kicks which has led to the protests.

Anger has turned against Chairman Rod Petrie and manager Terry Butcher after an appalling sequence of results saw Hibs condemned to Championship football with former England captain Butcher’s popularity dwindling since his appointment last November.

Petrie shelled out on a large compensation package to Inverness Caley for the services of Butcher, assistant Maurice Malpas and Steve Marsella but the three of them have brought the club to its knees and seen the Hibees slip from fifth spot in the Premiership to relegation fodder.

An abysmal run of one win in 19 games was overshadowed by Wednesday nights victory but the loss today has clearly stung the fans into a vociferous protest.
