English Championship Interest In Cummings?

The January Transfer rumours have started once again and whilst it’s in the online Daily Record’s transfer news page, do we put much credence in their report suggesting Hibs star striker is a transfer target for English Championship outfits QPR & Barnsley?

Cummings has certainly recaptured his early season form after a spell spent warming the bench following criticism from manager Neil Lennon and has netted 4 in 4 games including a crucial double against Dundee United in Friday night’s top of the table clash.

He was the subject of a £1.7m bid from Peterborough during the summer, an offer which was dismissed out of hand therefore any potential suitor will unquestionably have to offer top dollar to secure the signature of a player who has three and a half years left on his current deal at Easter Road.

The 21 year old has made over 100 appearances for the club and despite his tender years, has an almost 1 in 2 goals to games ratio which is even more impressive considering he failed to score in his first 16 games for the club.

There were many Hibs supporters who would have gladly accepted the fee Peterborough put on the table as there are still doubters within the Hibs support regarding Cummings overall footballing ability but the one sure thing he can do is find the back of the net and without doubt has the predatory natural positioning sense required by all top strikers.

Whether or not Cummings is ready for the physical aspect of the English second tier as against the Scottish (a 46 game season is punishing on the body) is a different matter altogether but if Hibs receive a bid ‘too good to refuse’ then regardless of your feelings towards him- he’ll be hard to replace.
