Hibs full back Neal Eardley has signed for English League One outfit Northampton Town following the expiry of his deal at Easter Road.

The 28 year old Wales international made only two Scottish Championship appearances for Neil Lennon’s side having joined as a free agent in September and joins a side currently managerless following Rob Page’s sacking on Monday.

Eardley started his career with Oldham Athletic and has also had spells with Blackpool, Birmingham City and Leyton Orient but he was unable to oust captain David Gray as first choice right back at Easter Road and was frequently left out of the match day squad altogether.

The 16 times capped Welshman will now try to resurrect his career in the lower reaches of the English third tier with The Cobblers currently lying 16th in League One.

Interestingly two former Hibees are in the running to become the new manager at Sixfields Stadium with Gary Caldwell and John Hughes both amongst the front runners for the vacant position.
