Doyle And Fenlon Hope For Griffiths Stay

Hibs star Eoin Doyle hopes his strike partner, Leigh Griffiths, will remain at the club after his current loan deal, which expires in January, comes to an end.

The Irishman has built up a great rapport with the SPL’s top scorer during his two spells at the Easter Road club and hopes the Hibees can secure him on a permanent deal following Wolves manager Stale Solbakken’s confirmation this week that the new Scotland cap has no future at Molineux.

Despite being deemed surplus to requirements at his parent club during the summer, a decision which has baffled many supporters of the Midlanders who believe the player has never had the opportunity to show his worth to the club, Griffiths has silenced his doubters by firing home 13 league goals in fourteen outings this season.

Despite his prolific record Wolves Norwegian boss stated it’s his intention to sell the player during the January transfer window to recoup some of the £150,00 then manager Mick McCarthy shelled out for the striker.

However Doyle has urged Hibs to do everything within their power to keep a hold of the 22 year old and told the Edinburgh Evening News “If he goes in January, he`d be a big loss for us.

“We all really hope he`ll stay, so hopefully the club will be able to sort it out. He`s a really special player for us and has the ability to pull a goal out of nothing.

“He`s definitely one of the best I`ve played with, especially in the form he`s in just now. He`s absolutely flying and his goals are helping get us through games.”

Doyle’s words were similar to those of manager Pat Fenlon who hopes to keep not only Griffiths at the club but also fellow loanees Ryan McGivern and Honduran midfielder Jorge Claros.

The Hibs boss confirmed talks regarding the trio’s future were continuing but offered a cagey response.

He said “I`m none the wiser about the Griffiths situation at the moment but discussions have been ongoing.

“We are working to keep Leigh, Ryan and Jorge, but when we have something to say about it, we`ll let everyone know as soon as possible.

“We`ll do our best to make sure we keep them, though. We want all three to stay and I think they all want to stay.”
