Hibs won the final Edinburgh of the season when young striker Ross Caldwell produced a sublime finish with barely two minutes remaining of a pulsating clash.

The visitors dominated proceedings without the Jambo’s offering an attacking threat.

With Hibs eager to show off the talents of Alex Harris it was clear from kick off Pat Fenlons men saw the deficiencies within the Hearts back four.

The victory looked unlikely following the goal which gave the home side the lead on the stroke of half time despite Hibs domination of the first half.

Darren Barr gave Hearts the lead in the 45th minute with a goal typical of many scrappy efforts which seem to haunt Hibs in this fixture.

A refereeing error saw the home side awarded a corner despite Kevin Thomson being clearly fouled which gave the Jambo’s the opportunity to capitalise on some poor Hibs defending..

Darren Barr scrambled the ball home after indecisive Hibs defending, after Ngoo, possibly his only worthwhile contribution thoughout, caused havoc in a Hibs back line containing Jordan Foster making his debut, replacing out of form James McPake.

Having dominated the game a shell shocked Hibs found themselves a goal behind however the second period was to prove enthralling.

Hibs started in the same vein as they had during the first period, looking to take their game to their opponents and were duly rewarded on the 49th minute.

A direct free kick was awarded some 25 yards from goal which saw 27 goal striker Leigh Griffiths summon the ball.

The Hibs diehard, having studied his options, elected for a shot which sailed over a despairing Hearts keeper into the back of the net.

Giving a one thumb signal in reference to internet trolls, Griffiths slid towards the Hibs support in obvious delight following his super strike.

The following entertainment was poor with the standard of football pretty grim but the visitors continued to hold sway.

A deserved winner was found with only two minutes remaining.

An incisive Hibs break saw the ball break to Griffiths inside the 18 yard box. A quick square ball presented 19 year old Ross Caldwell with an opportunity which, given his tender years, he could have scorned, however the youngster took a slight touch before curling an unstoppable effort past Jamie McDonald to send the Hibs fans into raptures.

Such a fine finish of one so young immediately drew comparisons to a certain Garry O’Connor who himself notched a winner against Hearts at a young age.

With barely injury time remaining Hibs held on to record a first league victory over their city rivals in four years.

Ironically it was a fifth game undefeated against their city this season, bringing a different complexion to the whole 1-5 scenario.

1-5? The amount of victories Hearts have had in the last 6 competitive fixtures between the two Edinburgh rivals.
