At least this is expected to be the case with Jason Cummings.

Cummings does still have a year left on his current Hibernian deal but the reported Rangers , Trabzonspor and numerous English Championship clubs (including Rotherham) target is set to stay.

He’s ‘on the verge’ of signing a new deal?

Neil Lennon, who said getting the 20-year-old to commit his future to Hibs was his priority when he arrived, earlier this week told the BBC he was hoping talks would be wrapped up sharpish.

‘I’m hoping to get the negotiations finished off quick. We’re under no pressure to sell him, so I’m not worried about any rumours at all.’

‘If we can keep him, it means we’ve got a 25-goal striker in our ranks, which will be very important if we want to get out of the Championship. I think he’s happy here and he knows he’s wanted. I’m still getting to know him, but he has an infectious personality. He has got a wee bit of the rascal about him, which I don’t mind. It makes him the player he is.’

When Lennon was working as a pundit for the BBC during Euro 2016 the Scottish U21 international flew out to Paris, with his agent, for ‘face-to-face talks’ with the boss with it believed an agreement was probably just about reached to keep him at Easter Road.

Lennon has always been of the opinion his future is best served staying with Hibs for another year or two, all being well this will soon be confirmed.

The Daily Record has gone onto quote Lennon as saying ‘I think we are pretty close’ and ‘I don’t think we’re far away at all now.’

All sounds positive but once this is 100% official we’ll be able to relax a little more.
