After a black Sunday for the club, a black Monday has followed with Hibs making a cull of the playing squad which saw them relegated from the Scottish Premiership following Sunday’s defeat on penalties to Hamilton.

James McPake and Kevin Thomson admitted to Sky Sports News they’d both been released by the club and the same channel now understands Ben Williams, Dean Horribine, Tom Taiwo, Paul Cairney, Alan Maybury and Captain Liam Craig have also been freed.

Youngsters Bradley Donaldson, Paul Grant and David Gold have also confirmed they’re to leave the club through socia media outlet Twitter.

Of all the reported departures, the announcement of Craig is the biggest surprise after only arriving at the club last summer from St Johnstone.

He was handed the Captain’s armband by Butcher and despite falling out of favour for a short spell had worked his way back into a starting role.

The others reportedly released come as no great surprise with all being out of contract at the end of the month although Maybury may be slightly disappointed having taken up a coaching role with the youth squad during the season.

There is also speculation regarding the future of Northern Ireland international Ryan McGivern who left the East Mains training ground after only ten minutes this morning.

Hibs are expected to make a statement confirming all the released players later today or in the morning.

Craig is genuinely a surprise in that list. The rest have shown themselves to be not worthy of a jersey (Excluding the youngsters). Fast moving developments.
