Rumours sweeping the capital are suggesting Hibs gaffer Terry Butcher will quit the club after Sunday’s Premiership play-off second leg against Hamilton.

Butcher’s side head into the clash with a 2 goal advantage following Jason Cummings brace in midweek with a sell out crowd expected at Easter Road tomorrow.

If the rumours are to be believed then it’s understood Butcher offered his resignation to Rod Petrie some weeks ago, which the Hibs Chairman refused but on this occasion it’s a personal issue rather than a footballing one which sees him want to quit.

The former England captain was only appointed as Hibees gaffer in November last year following Pat Fenlon’s decision to quit Easter Road and Stuart McCall has been suggested as Butcher’s replacement although this may simply be people putting two and two together and coming up with 5 as former Motherwell CEO, Leeann Dempster makes the switch from Fir Park to take over a similar role from the aforementioned Petrie.

Only time will tell if the rumour is simply mischief making but as the story continues to grow arms and legs, a denial or confirmation from the club should hopefully arrive sooner rather than later.

Have to admit to having mixed feelings if this is true. On the footballing side it could be a godsend but on a personal basis for Tel and his family I’d certainly hope if it’s his wife who’s ill then she makes a full recovery.
