Former Hibs boss Terry Butcher is on the shortlist to take charge of the New Zealand national side according to reports.

Butcher, sacked by the Hibees earlier this month after a disastrous seven month reign which saw the Edinburgh club relegated to the Scottish Championship, is in the frame alongside former Northern Ireland internationals Iain Dowie and Lawrie Sanchez who both have experience of managing their country.

The All Whites are currently under the interim care of Neil Emblem following Ricki Herbert’s resignation in the wake of a 9-3 aggregate loss to Mexico in the World Cup play-offs.

Former Inverness and Motherwell boss Butcher has previous experience of managing in the region, having spent an unsuccessful season in charge of Australian outfit Sydney, where he was sacked only eight months into a two year contract.

The New Zealand FA have received more than 100 applications from around the globe as they seek to fill the void left by Herbert’s departure but it appears they look set to appoint a British coach in the hope they can turn around the nation’s footballing fortunes.
