Scott Allan’s surprise return to Easter Road is all but done according to the latest reports.

Simon Murray’s decision to head to Dens Park on a loan deal until the end of the season triggers a domino effect with Hibs ‘keeper Scott Bain, only just signed by the Hibees at the beginning of this window, having his short term deal ripped up which in turn allows him to sign for Celtic as cover for the injured Craig Gordon and back up to Dorus De Vries.

Bain’s arrival at Parkhead sees Allan’s season long deal with Dundee terminated and he’ll immediately sign a similar loan deal to rejoin the Easter Road side.

The 26 year old’s return will certainly split opinion with many Hibs fans still holding a grudge over the manner of his departure when having failed to manipulate a move to Rangers, Celtic suddenly came calling and the boyhood ‘Gers fan jumped ship to sign up at Parkhead.

Truth be told, Hibs have been seeking a creative force all season and on his day, Allan is an undoubted talent and can muster something out of nothing. Should he play anywhere near the standard he reached during his first spell at the club the more fickle fans may well be eating humble pie come the season end.
