Alan Stubbs has became the latest name to be linked with the vacant Hibs manager role with Everton having granted the Easter Road outfit permission to discuss terms according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The report claims talks between the Toffees reserve team manager and Hibs CEO Leeann Dempster will take place over the next few days after Dempster identified the former Celtic star as a serious candidate to drag the Hibees out the doldrums following their relegation to the Scottish Championship.

Stubbs is highly regarded by the Goodison Park outfit where he made over 160 appearances as a player and chairman Bill Kenwright interviewed him for the manager’s role after David Moyes defection to Manchester United last summer before appointing Roberto Martinez.

The 42 year old, an England B international in his playing days, has plenty of experience of the Scottish game having enjoyed a five year stint at Celtic after joining the Parkhead club for £4 million from Bolton.

He becomes the latest name to join an increasing list of candidates with Stubbs joining Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Scot Gemmill and Mark Venus as potential replacements for Terry Butcher linked over the past few days.

Venus, a former assistant at Easter Road under Tony Mowbray, had been odds on favourite for the job at one stage on Monday evening but has since drifted back to odds of 6/4.

Dumbarton boss Ian Murray and Motherwell gaffer Stuart McCall who worked closely with Dempster at Fir Park also remain amongst the bookies favourites.

Stubbs is an excellent candidate, done his apprenticeship at Everton under Moyes and Martinez and must have a good network of contacts. I’d love to hear from any Everton fans dropping by to read this for their views.
