The most recent supporters poll ran by Vital Hibs shows a remarkable backing for the Paul Kane led campaign to oust Rod Petrie from the club.

Final voting figures show 84% of those who chose to participate want the non-executive chairman to step down from his role following the club’s relegation to the Championship.

Fans blame Petrie for the appointment of Terry Butcher who, in his short seven month tenure as manager, led a mediocre mid-table Premiership side to relegation after a calamitous run of form which saw the Hibees win only once in 19 league matches.

Butcher’s disastrous spell was the end for many of the club’s hard core support who blame Petrie for a succession of poor quality appointments in the manager’s role with the former Inverness Caley boss following unpopular choices in Colin Calderwood and Pat Fenlon.

The Vital poll has never fluctuated from an above 80% support during the month in which it ran despite claims the group have been failing to communicate their ideas on a regular basis.

Complaints regarding the lack of information from the ‘Petrie Out’ camp over their ideal long term goals are rife as despite the group being backed by former Hibs stars Mickey Weir and Pat Stanton, exact explanations as to how they’ll achieve their ultimate goal are thin on the ground.

With the appointment this week of Alan Stubbs as Head Coach, Leeann Dempster has stamped her own authority on the club and if she can provide decent funds to support her new man alongside a marquee signing or two, it may be Kane’s campaign will fail to regain the support it had merely a fortnight ago particularly if the club appear to be heading in an encouraging direction.

Pre-season training has restarted with four friendlies being confirmed this afternoon so most fans are happy to be once again discussing football matters rather than issues at boardroom level – for Petrie Out to be a success they need to make an impact statement and do so now or the momentum seen outside the West Stand when Weir and Stanton were inspirational speakers could well be lost for a long while.

Our new poll asks the question: Can Alan Stubbs lead Hibs to promotion?

It can be found to the right of your screen, so take a second to vote and we’ll supply the results in approximately 4 weeks time.

I saw a post recently saying they started the campaign in a whirlwind of emotion based on supporters feelings after relegation which is something I tend to agree with. There doesn’t appear to be any substance behind the campaign bar shouting Petrie Out. Think it’s been a week since they bothered updating their Twitter account so the momentum has waned.
